CASE STUDY
CR
is a 34 year old woman with chronic spinal pain. She was
injured at work and was treated medically for three months.
Due to continual worsening and stiffness, she was referred
for chiropractic treatment by her attorney.
12
visits of DC care with stretching, physiotherapy, and myofascial
release techniques were implemented with little change in
post CT bending views. Exercises and stretching were added
and twelve additional visits were offered with slow but
noted symptomatic change, but the patient still complained
of difficulty sleeping and requiring high doses of Motrin.
The
patient was sent for medical evaluation and pain management
for six weeks in addition to continued chiropractic and
adjunctive management. Upon a six week follow-up, the patient
felt good when she took a strong muscle relaxer and pain
killer, but her symptoms still reached moderate levels frequently.
Work restrictions could not be lifted due to the pain levels
reported. Re-examination after six additional weeks showed
that the spinal dysfunction were not reducing as expected
with the treatment being provided due to articular and myofascial
fibrosis.
She
was scheduled for two days of MUA and was re-x-rayed after
the first procedure of Sedation Assisted Traction Procedures
to Include Manipulation Under Anesthesia. Following are
her pre and post radiographs, of the most restricted side,
after one day of MUA. Note global and intersegmental improvements
in motion. Patient response after two days was excellent
and expected to continue to improve until the eight-week
follow-up is completed.
